Pylyp Travkin: How Coal Can Become “Clean”

Published: (Updated: ) in News, , by .

Coal has long been considered the main source of emissions, but carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies have the potential to change this. Pylyp Travkin sees coal not as a problem, but as part of the solution. CCS allows for the collection of COâ‚‚ directly at power plants, compressing it and safely storing it underground – with efficiency already reaching 90–95%. This reduces emissions without loss of power and provides an opportunity to modernize existing plants. “Coal doesn’t have to be the enemy of the climate,” notes Travkin, “what matters is the technologies we use.” CCS transforms traditional energy into a path towards real decarbonization.
